How do I apply for a grant? Can I apply this year if I applied for a grant last year?
Organizations may submit an application to the Chopstix for Charity grant committee during the eligibility period. Qualified organizations may apply regardless of whether they applied and received grant funding in previous years. Please see the Grants page for details and applications.
My organization does not have 501(c)(3) tax exempt status, can I apply using another organization's 501(c)(3) status?
No, if your organization does not have 501(c)(3) status from the IRS, you cannot apply for a grant directly or indirectly via a third party, even if the third party has 501(c)(3) status. We encourage you to apply for a grant once you have received 501(c)(3) status.
My organization is currently in the initial probationary period for 501(c)(3), can I apply for a grant?
Yes, you may apply for a grant if you have received probationary approval from the IRS for 501(c)(3) tax exempt status. You may not apply for a grant if your organization is still pending initial approval for 501(c)(3) status.
Who decides which applicants receive a grant?
A grant committee comprised of the Chopstix for Charity Executive Committee and leaders from local Asian non-profit organizations evaluates all grant applicants and bases awards on the application and the organization's needs. The committee announces its awards in the Spring of the year following the event.
When is the deadline for submitting an application?
Application deadlines will be announced on the Grants page, generally applicants will have at least a month in which to submit an application.
